Swisslog Healthcare yesterday announced a strategic alliance with Diligent Robotics, the developer of the Moxie robot for hospitals. The partners said they plan to bring autonomous last-mile delivery robots to hospitals across the U.S.
The collaboration complements Swisslog Healthcare’s transport and pharmacy automation suite with Diligent Robotics’ autonomous mobile manipulation robots (AMMRs). The companies said they they will streamline workflows, automate tasks, and empower hospital pharmacies to elevate patient care.
“Our strategic alliance with Diligent Robotics adds a complementary pillar to our automation offerings and reinforces our vision to lead change for better care,” stated Cory Kwarta, president and CEO of Swisslog Healthcare. “Last-mile delivery robots reinforce our commitment to innovative solutions and addresses our customers’ evolving needs.”
By integrating automation, value-added services, and intelligent software, Swisslog Healthcare said it enables healthcare providers to respond to patients’ needs quickly and with greater accuracy. The Buchs, Switzerland-based company claimed that it can minimize many sources of operational waste so providers can improve productivity and patient care.
Robots to complement pneumatic tubes in hospitals
The partners noted that the service robotics market is expected to grow 15% to 18% annually over the next three to five years.
“By joining forces, both companies seek to address the rising demand for efficient, end-to-end hospital logistics solutions that drive operational efficiency and allow healthcare staff to focus more on patient care,” said Diligent Robotics.
Swisslog Healthcare said the collaboration will strengthen its leadership in healthcare transport automation by extending current pneumatic tube systems installed by subsidiary TransLogic with Diligent Robotics’ AMMRs. The robots will also enhance the ability to track and trace goods transported in hospitals, it said.
In addition, Diligent and Swisslog said they will address “last-mile” deliveries and transport items too large or sensitive for tubes, such as samples.
“For our customers who have been asking for reliable, efficient last-mile delivery robots that integrate seamlessly with existing workflows, this cooperative effort with Diligent Robotics allows us to connect them with a proven solution for smarter and safer deliveries that staff and patients trust,” said Ray Castro, director of strategic programs for transport automation at Swisslog Healthcare. He will lead the coordination of Swisslog’s activities with Diligent Robotics.
Diligent’s Moxi aligns with Swisslog Healthcare mission
Diligent Robotics said its Moxi robot is already deployed at more than 25 U.S. hospitals. It has successfully completed over 1 million deliveries, including 300,000 pharmacy deliveries, noted the Austin, Texas-based company. This proven track record in fast-paced, high-pressure medical environments aligns with Swisslog Healthcare’s mission to enhance operational efficiency in healthcare settings, it said.
“Together with Swisslog Healthcare, we’re setting a new standard for healthcare logistics,” said Dr. Andrea Thomaz, co-founder and CEO of Diligent Robotics. “Swisslog Healthcare’s unmatched reach, combined with their deep trust and decades of experience in pharmacy automation, makes them the ideal partner to bring our autonomous delivery robots to health systems at scale.”
Since its founding in 2017, Diligent has focused on advancing healthcare automation with Moxi. The company has also completed more than 100,000 autonomous elevator rides.
Editor’s note: Vivian Chu, co-founder and chief innovation officer of Diligent Robotics, will be speaking at RoboBusiness 2025, which takes place Oct. 15 and 16 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. She will discuss how real-time adaptation, vision-language agents, and behavior tree recovery help Moxi operate in complex, human-facing environments.
RoboBusiness, the premiere event for commercial robotics developers and suppliers, will be co-located with DeviceTalks West, which serves the medical device. Registration is now open.
